Fried Purple Cabbage

Fresh Picked Cabbage From The Garden

My favorite picked from the garden was this vibrant purple cabbage. This being my first experience cooking with this vegetable, I wanted to steer away from the popular pickled cabbage and slaw. Instead, I went with something very familiar to me, Southern Fried Cabbage! This recipe is easy to prepare and great to enjoy while health conscious. Typically, Southern Fried Cabbage is cooked with bacon, which would work fine on a Keto diet. I decided to skip the bacon and substitute it with avocado oil, which fits well with a variety of diets (Keto, Vegan, Paleo). The best part of this recipe is the flavor! You can find Tony Chacheres Seasoning at the grocery store or online. As always, the other ingredients are simple and easy to prepare. 



1/2 head of purple cabbage cored and chopped 

1/4 cup of avocado oil

1 green bell pepper cut into 1 inch pieces

1 red bell pepper cut into 1 inch pieces

1 medium yellow onion cut into thirds

3 cloves of garlic diced

1/2 tablespoon of Tony Chacheres Seasoning

1 teaspoon of garlic powder

1 teaspoon of smoked paprika

1 teaspoon of onion powder

1/2 teaspoon of thyme

Salt and pepper to taste 


In a large nonstick skillet, over medium heat, coat with 1 tablespoon of avocado oil. Add chopped bell peppers and onion, cooking until onions become translucent. Add garlic while being careful not to burn. Next, add the remaining oil to skillet, along with the chopped cabbage. Add all seasonings and mix well. Cover skillet and allow to cook until cabbage is tender. 

This dish can be served as a side dish to poultry, salmon, or beef. Also, great as a main dish. I hope you enjoy!
